We’ve been sooo sad about the passing of our dear friend Oscar, mom thought we needed to get out of the house and try to be happy again – to do some fun, different things.  So we piled into the Bogie-mobile and off we went for a very full day (it takes a LOT to distract us from cryin’ about our buddy)…

    Aire Dry

First things first – I had a refreshing shower with Dad.  As much as I’m not really into getting wet, I do have to say that after the shower is over I feel mighty fresh and good.  Runnin’ around the apartment, aire-drying, rubbing up against everything.  Now I’m READY…

The first stop was a little drive away – we went to Larchmont Village, one of the few walking streets in Los Angeles.

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

Lots of little shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.  Lots of people too because they apparently have a farmers market there on Sundays (and no dogs allowed inside – barbarians!) so we had to do a lot of walking “around” it.  No worries for me, lots of people had dogs with them (they must have had the same idea we did and were big fans of Oscar too).  Oddly, most of the doggies weren’t that friendly to me and had to be pulled back by their owners.  But I maintained calm and didn’t get into any arguments… I wanted to see everything!

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

Looking at properties – thinking about getting my own backyard sometime…

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

Mom thought it would be funny to get me a real haircut at the Barber Shop but haha mom – they’re CLOSED on Sunday!!!  So just a little posing and an inside joke.

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

Then I started sniffing around this shop… thought maybe I’d pick up a little something for some of my Aire-girl friends (was thinkin’ of Miss Maggie, Sunshade, Putter, the Airechicks, Allegra, Maggie 2, & Faya and maybe a little somethin’ for Snickers…).

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

It gave me a *special* twitter so I happily posed for the photo.

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

We wanted to eat some lunch but every cafe was pretty crowded… so we headed to Old Town Pasadena and a place where they always give me great treatment, Malagueta!

    Bogart at Malagueta

    Bogart in Larchmont Village

I had my own area to lay down, and a nice, cold bowl of water.  Even a few pieces of mozzarella cheese fell down magically from mom’s plate.  Mmm mmm mmm.

I thought we’d be heading home after that, but instead we went over to dad’s friend Stephen’s house nearby… I haven’t been there in AGES and got really excited.  Now mom says that she was a little wary about us going over there because the last time we were there I got into a little doggie argument with one of their doggies (they have 3).  So she wasn’t sure if this was going to work…

    Doggies!

    Doggies!

    Doggies!

    Doggies!

But she had nothing to worry about, the one doggie that I don’t get along with was in the backyard and we got to run around in the front yard.  Yay!  Running in grass, playing with doggies, this is great fun for an apartment-dog like me.

    Doggies!

Sitting by the pool with the humans was fun too – although sometimes their conversation gets a little bit boring.  But they had doggie cookies and they were sitting in the shade, so I was happy to join their little party.

    Doggies!

    Doggies!

Very relaxing, then a nice, easy drive home.

Mom and dad were relaxed too and didn’t feel like cooking dinner (well, they cooked MINE so basically all is well with the world) so off we went AGAIN, this time to our local Mexican place, the Rodeo Grill.  Mom and I sat outside, watching all of the hipsters slump by, while dad went in to get their burritos.  One guy came up to me and was talking to mom – he’s one of the waiters from Good Microbrew, the place we always go for lunch!  He recognized me before he recognized mom… yes, I’m pretty memorable indeed.

    Bogart Loves Oscar

So as you can see it was a BUSY day, and a fun one.  Didn’t make me forget about my buddy Oscar, I’ll never forget about him!  But I hope that he’s watching, reading my blog from the Rainbow Bridge, and having a good laugh at my Aire-ventures.

    Love,

    The Nose Knows

I first saw this great quiz on Maggie & Mitch’s blog and thought I’d add my own answers…
    1. Your age?
Super close to 2 years old this August
    2. Your age when came to live with your people?
2 months old, still full of milk belly and with my baby fuzz, I flew across the US by myself from Virginia to Los Angeles!

    3. What color is the collar you’re wearing right now?

As I write this, I have on my bright green nylon “adventure harness”, but I do have a nice little collection of collars for different activities and occasions.

    4. Who is your favorite person other than the people you live with?

Oh that’s easy. My mom’s friend Mareike who has my 3 favorite Airedales in the entire world! Whenever I visit, I pretend that I have no interest in her at all while I spend all of my time trying to hump the lovely Jupie, but the truth is that she’s pretty darned cool and I love her doggies!

    5. How much do you weigh?

In the mid 60s – my weight fluctuates depending on how lazy mom and dad are (not MY fault, of course…)

    6. Most expensive thing you’ve ever chewed up?

Ahem, it was a pair of shoes that belonged to mom that she’d just bought… and she had to try to explain to me that it wasn’t possible to return them for a full refund if they have a CHUNK bitten out of them. Hey, I was young, I didn’t understand such concepts at the time (and they were tasty).

    7. Do you like other Dogs?

Well… sometimes. Girls are generally always ok (they appreciate an intact man with a potent manly-musk) unless they don’t like me, but boys can be more of an issue. I usually want to be the “top dog” and sometimes I start a little somethin’, sometimes the other boy dog starts a little somethin’ – luckily I’ve never hurt anyone and I’ve never been hurt, just a lot of barking and holding the other dog down with my big, right paw…

    8. Who is your best non-human friend?

Behemoth the kitty. My grey and white spotted buddy. But that’s mostly because he is a cat who LOVES dogs.

    9. Squeaky toys or tennis balls?

Mostly tennis balls, but squeaky toys do have their allure…

    10. Do you like to be brushed?

    Hell, yeah!

    11. Peanut Butter or Cheese?

    Cheez pleez!

    12. Do your people cut your toenails?

Nope, never needed it. Apparently I scratch ‘em off running around during my daily walkies so no cutting has been necessary so far.

    13. Any formal education?

Well, the cats have given me quite an education, and I’ve learned a lot from the school of life… but no official college for me.

    14. Couch potato or Energizer Bunny?

Energizer bunny – I’m always ready to go!

    15. Five nicknames your people call you.

Bogovatch, Bogster, Bogleroni, Boginski, and Bugaboo (those are the ones that don’t have the “adult” words in ‘em, for when I’m on my best behavior…)

    16. What is your best trick?

I’m a high-fiver, I’ll also shake paw based on whetehr you say “Guten Tag” or Auf Wiedersehn” to me (guten tag is for my left paw, auf weidersehn is for my right paw).

    17. Do you like kitties?

Oh yes, I’ve grown up with 4 kitties and they’re my buddies. I do still chase them around, but once they stop running or we run into a corner then the game is over.

    18. What did you have for breakfast?

I get some Natural Balance deli roll… it’s easy and I like it. I never ate breakfast for the longest time (I was never hungry in the morning), but lately I’ve been indulging.

    19. Can you hunt (aka have you ever killed anything living)? If so, what?

I’ve done a little stalking (of ducks in the park) but in general I’m a lover, not a fighter.

    20. When & why was the last time you went to the V.E.T.?

Oh grrrr, the vet. I had to have a foxtail removed from my paw that hurt like crazy – they put me under and had to remove it with a knife. I was supposed to wear the stupid elizabethan collar but mom and dad figured that if they slipped a sock over my paw that I wouldn’t bit it so they wouldn’t have to deal with the collar themselves (I love it when they’re selfish – sometimes). It healed nicely and now my fuzz has grown back.

    21. Where do you sleep at night?

I tuck in the humans by sleeping at their feet for awhile, then I have my own blanket in the living room that I sometimes share with my cat buddies.

    22. Do you like to swim?

Nope, so far I hate it. Imagine that, I’m supposed to be a water dog, and I hate puddles!!!

    23. Can you make puppies?

Yes, ma’am! I’m always lookin’ for love, and now that I’m a full-grown stud the idea seems pretty darned cool…

    24. Do you give kisses?

Yes, everyday! Mom gets woken up with kisses until she drags her butt out of bed to take me outside. But other people? Nah.

    25. Can you potty on command?

Nah… why should I? The humans carry bags to pick it up and they can always use a little extra exercise… (mom says that she has me on something called a “schedule” where she feeds me and I poop at about the same time every day…).

    26. To Cuz or not to Cuz?

Ya know, I jumped on the Cuz bandwagon a long time ago and I’ve just NEVER liked the darn thing. I have a big, red Cuz and I put it on the bottom of my toybox and whenever mom takes it out I completely ignore it. Cannot tell you why – I love my squeaky carrot, my squeaky Sniffers bar, my new plush toy from Charlie & Opy, my stuffed rat… but that Cuz just bores me to tears. Go figure.

    Bogie and Dad

As always, I can take absolutely no responsibility for not updating the blog for a few days. We all know who’s fault that is. Yes she’s typing now, but I really feel that if she thinks it’s important enough to drag her butt out to work that surely it must be equally as – if not more – important to sit down to take my fuzzy dictation and update the blog. She flaunts the fact that she has those silly opposable thumbs so often, you’d think that she’d actually want to USE them occasionally…

    But I digress.

    Bogie and Dad

This has been a fun week indeed, with dad back at home and the walks nice and long. It’s getting hot here tho, which means that I generally sleep in the middle of the day rather than frolic outside (I tell you, that asphalt gets damn hot and the humans with their shoes on really cannot appreciate how hot it can get…). So here’s a quick update – in photos:

    Bogie and Dad

    Bogart and Behemoth

This is my cat brother Behemoth. He’s wise beyond his years. He teaches me many things.

    Bogart and Behemoth

    For instance, we mediate together…

    Bogart and Behemoth

Sometimes I do it wrong and require some remedial education… luckily he generally keeps the claws sheathed so I just get her verbal cues (and facial expressions) and I get the point.

    Bogart and Behemoth

    Bogart Park

I spent LOTS of time in the park this week, running and hiking with mom and dad. It’s pretty hot so instead of noontime in the park it’s usually 3pm-ish.

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

Normally I’m not a big fan of Mondays… Mom is always cranky and it seems like things never really go the way they should. Lots of the humans seem to think that Mondays aren’t all that much fun so I just kind of went along with that until…

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

    Today.

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

We started out the day by doing my “duck check” (to make sure that the ducks are still there) at the Echo Park lake.

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

    Bogart at Echo Park Lake

I saw lots of turtles today – more than usual – but of course mom couldn’t capture that golden moment on camera.

Then it was errand-time. My least favorite. When I do get to come along (when it’s not too hot or sunny) I have to sit in the car to “guard” it for mom. She’s not fooling me for a minute. I don’t “guard” the car I just sit there in the copilot seat and w-a-i-t. I generally show my discontent by barking loudly just as she enters the store/post office/wherever she’s going. You know, just when lots of other people can see just how poorly she treats me and get a good look at her as she quickly runs into the store/post office/wherever.

    Rally Burger Bogie

    Rally Burger Bogie

    Rally Burger Bogie

    Rally Burger Bogie

I must have been uncharacteristically off of my game this morning because mom thought I was really good during the errands, so since we were in the neighborhood she thought a quick run to Rally’s might be in order. Mmmmm. Tasty burger for me, well worth it for being (relatively) quiet in the car.

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

Then since we needed to do a bit of walking mom thought we’d check out how Griffith Park was doing since the big fire, you know, see if our old hiking ground might be open (or if we could sneak in). No dice, they’ve got the whole thing fenced! That’s a lotta fence let me tell you, the fire area was huge! So we walked around it for awhile – admittedly mostly to see if there were any holes we could sneak through) and checked out just how close the fire had come to the beautiful old merry-go-round and picnic areas. Very scary stuff, it was literally just a few feet away.

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

So while mom was taking in the magnitude of the fire damage, I took in something myself… this spiffy soccer ball! Yes it’s deflated and kind of mushy but for me it’s PERFECTION. I can get my full mouth around it and carry it with me wherever I go which makes me HAPPY.

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

It thuds comfortingly when I drop it in front of me, and when mom tries to kick it out of my mighty paws it is easy for even those without those opposable thumbs to grasp. Ha! Score one for the four-leggers…

    Bogart's New Soccer Ball

Ok so normally this would be a GREAT day. End of blog. Time to sleep. But noooooo….

    Charlie & Opy's Present

When we got home and after my refreshing drink from my water fountain there was a big thud at the door. So I put on my “big boy voice” and started barking at the evil door. Mom looked through the peephole and didn’t see anyone so I thought, “Job done”, and retired back to my fountain. Mom opened the door and there it was – a package.

    Charlie & Opy's Present

She wasn’t expecting anything and looked at it… it was addressed to BOGART HANDSOME DEVIL – gimme gimme gimme!!!

It was from my pals Opy & Charlie all the way in Australia!!!!! I know that my manners in this arena may need a little sharpening but darn it GIMME THAT PACKAGE!!!

I don’t know if I’ve told everyone, but soft toys are my absolute favorite and I do not have nearly enough of them… this guy has a surfboard and cool board shorts on, did I mention how much I LOVE HIM???

Sorry I haven’t been in the mood to post for a coupla days… after The Brick I felt better, but then things started to get weird…

I’ve had pretty funky diarrhea, which is always fun.  Mom shaved my butt yesterday to help out with this situation (actually it looks and feels pretty good) and yesterday was gravy, today is pudding.  So it’s progress.

But the weirdest part is when I’m inside our apartment… I stare off into space and don’t want to lie down.  For the whole day.  Sometimes I stand still and just zone out, other times I walk back and forth between the front door and the terrace door.  And just stare.  Mom kept thinking that I would lay down and fall asleep since I wasn’t feeling well, but I don’t.  I STAND UP.  When I’m outside, I run and play like normal, so it seems like I’m feeling fine…. yes I know, it’s WEIRD.

Since today I got a little better mom said we’ll wait to see if I really need to go to the vet.  If I cannot relax, then we’ll go tomorrow.  Ok, gotta bug mom now – I want to go outside every 15 minutes or so and this 15 minutes is up!

    Fire!

    Bogart in Griffith Park

Well the day started out plainly enough…

For my midday walk mom thought we’d go to Griffith Park near the Old Zoo, which I REALLY LIKE.  First we made a pit stop to Rally’s for a burger (drive-thru today).  I could smell the burger-y goodness in the bag, but mom wouldn’t let me near it in the car.  Grrrrr.

    Bogart in Griffith Park

    Bogart in Griffith Park

    Bogart in Griffith Park

But we were heading to the park for a picnic so I did my best to distract myself (an Airedale specialty) until we got there.  Mom had a great plan to film my Rally-burger-destruction but alas, twas not to be.  She managed to get the first part committed to film, but then somehow pressed the off button and the actual burger massacre wasn’t recorded.  Ah well.  I look cute anyway.

Then we had our post-burger digestion walk through the park.  We didn’t see a single other person on the entire trail (which is odd) but I was having a blast!  Off the leash, running up and down hills, doing my best to amuse myself while mom walked along.

    bogartpark3.jpg

    Bogart in Griffith Park

    Bogart in Griffith Park

We went through the old zoo area and up the hiking trail – it was pretty warm today but there’s actually lots of shade on the trails so it wasn’t too bad.  Mom is also kinda smart – by getting a drink for herself at Rally’s with extra ice, she had both a drink for her and some ice for me so we both stayed hydrated!

As we were about half way through the hike, we looked up and saw this:

    Fire

    Fire

    Fire

It looked like a fire on the other side of the hill.  It looked scary.  Mom and I picked up the pace since we still had a long way to walk and we would actually be walking closer to where the fire was in order to get out of the park.

    Bogart in Griffith Park

As we got closer, the fire got bigger and scarier so we hot-footed it the rest of the way and headed toward the safety of the Bogie-mobile.  I made sure that the back seat was safe.

Then we got home, drove up the hill into our building and saw this:

    Fire

    Fire

    Fire

So it’s a BIG SCARY fire near the Hollywood sign (you can kind of see it in the last picture).  Whew!  Glad we got out of there (and of course, glad I got my Rally burger…).  Mom says that there is no danger of our place burning, but that the Bogie-mobile is gonna be covered in crap tomorrow.  I guess relatively speaking, that’s not so bad…

I was afraid that today was going to be another one of those lazy Sundays… you know the kind, where the humans become like beached whales on the couch, complain about how cold it is outside, and sit and eat a lot of soup.

    How wrong I was!

Mom shuffled me into the car without explanation, and we went over to MAREIKE’S HOUSE!!!

    Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales!

There is no greater place in the world than here because I get to run around with my 3 Aire-buddies, Robin, Kermit & Jupie!!!

I immediately (and repeatedly) broke my New Years resolution about humping. Sorry but I just couldn’t help myself…

    Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales!

Jupie is the only girl so she bore the brunt of my masculinity, but when she would register her displeasure I’d try out my moves on the boys as well.

    Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales! Mareike's Airedales!

While no one seemed really interested I persisted.

    Mareike's Airedales!

It just doesn’t get any better than this (well ok, maybe if Jupie would really let me have a go at her) thanks so much Mareike for letting me come over and play!!!!! Nothing like getting together with a bunch of Dales to make this boy smile!

    Bogart Handsome Devil

Wow, almost a WHOLE WEEK with no one taking pictures of me… that was surreal.

Believe it or not, mom finally found the camera card and guess where it was? It had fallen behind the overflowing laundry basket (I told you mom…. if you’d just let me get those extra panties and socks out of the way sooner you would have found it!!!). So I’m back in business…

Bogart at Kehoe Mountain Bogart at Kehoe Mountain Bogart at Kehoe Mountain

First order of the day – taking care of the yard at Kehoe Mountain. Heidi and her humans are back in Florida for awhile, so dad and I are in charge of taking care of the yard while they’re gone.

Today we had a nice lunch walking around The Grove – that’s an outdoor mall here in Los Angeles – and it was the first time that dad experienced the frenzy that develops every time I go out in public wearing my Doggles. I think even he was impressed. We walked through the street and of course everyone was either smiling, taking a cell phone picture, giggling, or pointing at ME. I’m used to it by now, but it was new for dad. Mom has already seen it all and so she just helped to direct our little party over toward Johnny Rockets for some lunch.

Bogart at The Grove Bogart at The Grove Bogart at The Grove

Lunch was yummy but then it was time to walk through the street again which of course was even more fun… by now I was pretty sick of the Doggles and I’ve found that a very effective method of removing them from my eyes (but not from my head, damnit) is to wiggle my head between mom’s knees – works pretty well except once she caught onto me. So I tried it with random strangers – with conflicting results.

Bogart at ARCO Bogart at ARCO Bogart at ARCO

After all that fun we had to refill the gas tank on the Bogie-mobile, so I allowed mom to take care of that while I got into the drivers seat, ready to drive us home.

Bogart at ARCO Bogart at ARCO

Mom thought that was pretty funny but hey, I was SERIOUS.

Mom also finally got around to snapping some photos of me in the Bogie-Beetle with my new Airedale Taxi sign (from my dreamgirl, Sunshade) – I think it’s appropriate!

Mom just found this cool site called WikiFido – and she put up a page for me!  It was a little difficult for her at first (I could see the smoke coming out of her ears and heard those “special” words she uses when she’s angry) but it looks pretty good.

Check me out on my own WikiFido page HERE, and don’t forget to add your own to your own breeds!  I saw the page of my dreamgirl Sunshade, which made my heart go pitter-patter…

No, not the Three Stooges, it’s the Three Airedales! And this is a serious story, not a funny one.

I just found out about these three gorgeous boys, and it’s a very sad story. Mom and I were crying reading about them! They’re in pretty bad shape and they need our help… You can read their story here.

The great folks at ARANT in North Texas have come up with an incredibly cool way for us all to help out… they’re raffling off a fantastic quilt! Check out the Denim & Dales page for pictures and a direct link to their Paypal account for raffle tickets. We just made a donation and entered! Good luck to everyone, but especially to Moe, Larry & Curly… I’m thinkin’ about you guys, and hope you get better soon and find some fantastic forever homes!!!
