It is ALWAYS a good thing when a package arrives addressed to me.  Always.

And packages addressed to me ALWAYS smell good.  From the outside.  That’s how I know the packages are for me.  I have this amazing nose, you see, it’s just a simple biological fact.

    WHOA!

PINE CONES!!!  I thought this package smelled extra amazing!!!

The package is from my pal Hobbes – a very intelligent Dale indeed – who collected them from the coast of Maine.  THAT’S LOVE AND TRUE FRIENDSHIP

I once again feel like a mighty oak with my mighty cones.  Philly is woefully underserved in the pine cone area.  And damn, but I miss these things…

    Yep, they still taste right…

    And now they’re ALL MINE

Oh my dear Hobbes, you are the bestest friend ever – I thank you from the bottom of my fuzzy heart.  These have made me so ridiculously happy, they take me back to my puppyhood and lovely days spent chasing fine cones.

Really, man.  I mean it.  YOU DA MAN HOBBES

I have already started the enjoy-ment of the cones my friend.  From the moment I tore open the box.

Mama and I send you LOTS of love and happy thoughts from us in Philadelphia up to you and your mama in Maine (are you going to be a part of the wedding? – I think you’d make a very dashing Best Man…)

    Love,

    Bogart

So as many dogs and cats and families as possible

    Whatever.
Just please help us get the message out.

    As you may know
    Miss Snickers is struggling
    Mightily
    Along with her family.

(The best place to keep up with updates is her Gussie’s blog.)

Last night looked as if it might have been her last.
This morning she rebounded with improved symptoms.

She is far from out of the woods
    But she and her family
Including her gentle and loving brother Butchy
    Have been granted another day.

    We can’t help but believe
that part of the improvement is because of
The support and love that have surrounded her
    From all around the world
    Thanks to the linked paws
    Of her blogging friends.
    The Power of the Paw

We are asking everyone to set your alarms
And at exactly 11:00 PM GMT on Saturday 14 Nov 09
(Go to this link to find what time that is for you)
5:00 PM Saturday evening in Iowa
as Snickers’ family sits down to eat
Turn toward them (in the central USA)
And join together in a silent minute
    Of prayer, meditation, contemplation, reflection
    Whatever feels right to you.

Followed by whatever means of communication
    You choose.

    Arrooing
    Barking
    Howling
    Yipping
    Yapping
    Wooing
    Meowing
    Mewing
    Purring

To wish and send Miss Snickers and her family
    whatever is in your hearts
That will help them feel the Love and Support
    They need right now.

Personally, we’ll be praying for a Miracle.

    Then

    Blow a Kiss
and send your Love and Prayers and Best Wishes
to Miss Snickers and her Family
and they will feel their arrival
    in the breeze.

    OK?
    We believe it will help.
And we’ll do anything in our power right now
    To help.

Stanley’s mama is an EXCELLENT booty scratcher.  And chin-action giver.  And present chooser.  But I have talents too…

    lisa1

Yes I will allow you to try to teach me about sticks.  I will even play the eager student.

    lisa2

Until you drop it and I place the mighty Paw of Doom upon it.  Then it’s mine.

    lisa3

    Catch me if you can!

    lisa4

Oh Miss Lisa, mama and I had SUCH A GOOD TIME with you, and we’re sorry that we couldn’t spend more time together while you were here in Portland.  I hope you know that all of those times I tried to tackle you as well as the times I would grumble meant that I was showing you LOVE and APPRECIATION, even when it may not have seemed that way.

And thanks for all of the chin action and the introduction to the true atomic booty scratch.  Obviously mama has been doin’ it wrong all of this time, and she learned something too.

    lisa5

Give my love to Stanley and Stella!  And of course a little extra somethin’ for Merv.

My pal Robin (one of what dad used to call “the mobsties”) is sick… he has a tumor and may need surgery – he needs some serious Airezen or any-kind-of-Zen-you-can-do!

Mama spilled the beans to me that I am going to get to visit my favorite Dales in LA this summer, and hey, I really wanna see my pal Robin.  Robin is a very, very special boy to his mama Mareike, so I’m asking for your lovin’ to come toward Los Angeles from all of the world!

Ina and Jecke-Jule, two cool Dales in Germany, sent this song that their dad wrote and performed – it’s about Airedales!!! – for Klaus.  I played it for him this morning, it’s so great for him to hear something other than the beeping of all of the machines surrounding him.  Thank you!

Small but mighty, Dr. Dre wanted to explore Portland.  It was freezing cold out today – and as the humans planned to go into some stores and stuff, I had to stay home and “guard the house”.  Ok not my favorite, but oodles better than “guarding the car”…

Chinatown – Old Town Portland – two tough guys posing.

Grrr… by this time it was COLD – enough photos guys!!!

Dr. Dre got serenaded outside of Powell’s Books by a local violin player…

Checked out the pig statues on trendy NW 23rd…

Stopped for a bagel at Kettelman’s – notice how my dad carried his table number.  Because real men don’t carry plastic table numbers, apparently.

Then time for some shopping in Urban Outfitters…

All of this excitement makes Dre a tired boy.

One last stop at the Dapper Cap – yes, this is a tiny hat, not exactly Dre-size but close.  I really think these could be a full spread in Dogue:

Now how badass is Dre here?

    Just hangin’ out…

Ah, finally back home after a quick stop at the Lucky Lab and the Hawthorne Fish House.  It’s good to be home…

I’m gonna miss ya Dre – can’t wait to see you again my friend!

    Love,

I can’t tell ya how tickled I am these days to be watching the Kerry Blues do their thang… mama and I are really absolutely enamored of them.  And THOSE BEARDS – they make me all tingly whenever I see them, especially after roaring to the top in Stanley & Stella’s Beard Competition.

So I feel very honored (and did I mention tingly?) to receive this award from them.

The award states: “This blog invests and believes in PROXIMITY – nearness in space, time and relationships!” In other words, blogs that receive this award “are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

So as always, I’m probably late to the party on this one.  In the interest of spreading the love, I’m gonna try to find other dogs who haven’t already received this, many apologies if you already have…

    Asta (up over)

    Nottie Scottie

    Lorenza

    Ludo

    Sally & Rufus

    Deetz

    The G-Dales

    Scruffy, Stan & Lacie

It was TOUGH to just pick 8 other dogs to send this to – I tried hard to find those of you who hadn’t already received one – which is sometimes the toughest part.  Mama and I read so many of your blogs all the time, so we did a lot of visiting to see, but alas, sometimes mama screws up.

So I’m just sending BIG AIRE KISSES to ALL of my dog friends to cover my butt (tuck tail first!) :)

    Hey dogs, check this out!!!

I just got the coolest book in the mail – and it’s written by an AIREDALE!!!

Life to the Max is a book of maxims for a great life – written by a dog named Max (and told to his mama).  It’s adorable… and TASTY

Mama thinks it’s funny that whenever she hands me a book the first thing I do is try to bite it.  Yep, I find that amusing too…

    Nom nom nom

Ooh, and looky!  My copy is autographed!!!  Big thanks Max & Robin for this great book!!!  Check it out, read Max’s website, or get your own copy HERE

    Love,
