I’m feeling SUPER SPECIAL.  The fine folks at Dogster have bestowed my humble little blog with their coveted 4 Paws Up badge!

Thanks Dogster!  I will fly these badges with pride.  They make my butt wiggle.  And yes, I am open for cuddling anytime.

    Gotta love the SNOW SNOUT!!!

The only way to get one is to go in, go deep, and dig in with all you’ve got!!!

Use all of your resources… (i.e., front yard AND back yard)

Instinct takes over… nose down, going to ground…

Paws optional – mostly for style and flair…

    Full schnoz!!!

    And the result…

Another public service brought to you by Bogart Handsome Devil, trendsetter.

    It’s S-N-O-W-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ohmydog you guys, this is my first real snow – so even though it’s Sunday, I woke mama up at 7 AM so we could go for a brisk early-morning walkie!  I just KNOW she appreciated this, I could see it in her face (well, just her eyes because the rest of her was completely covered to protect her from the cold)…

    Slippery… but COOL

Come on mama, there is no need for a short walkie because of the snow – I’M NOT COLD

The forest is really beautiful during the snow – we haven’t seen another person or dog – so we’re making the first footprints…

So now it’s time to make the ceremonial first footprint in the snow in our backyard.

    Then… time to PLAY!!!

A little snow on the button…

    PLAY WITH MEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Mama and dad didn’t know exactly what to expect during my first romp in the snow, but I’ve gotta say that I took to it like a champ.  It’s AWESOME and since it’s going to snow all day it looks like we’ll have some for awhile!!!

    Love & Snowy Aire Kisses,

PS – We’ve been having SO MUCH FUN, mama just had to add some new pictures:

YOU LIKE ME – YOU REALLY LIKE ME

I am humbled and very grateful to accept this award from the folks at Dogs With Blogs – the Webmasters Choice Award for Outstanding Blog.

I have been blogging for just over 3 years now, and remember the dark times before DWB – when there were no other dogs with blogs, no one reading my blog, and no online dog community – and the day that I got a little email from our friends Greg and Brooke asking if I wanted to join a new site that they were putting together called Dogs With Blogs.  Everything changed after that, and not only did more and more dogs join up and link to us, but friendships (and flirtations for me) were born.

THANK YOU Greg, Brooke, Charlie and Opy for recognizing my blog, and for being MY FRIEND

    Love,

Inspired by the absolutely amazing Michael Phelps and his 8 gold medals, today I decided was going to be the day that I actually SWIM.  You’ll remember that last time I went into the river I only waded up until my beard.  Today I’m gonna go ALL THE WAY…

    Ok, maybe not right away…

Wait a minute dad, did I say I was going to swim today?  Uh, I think I meant something else…  oh well, HERE WE GO…

The Sandy River isn’t that deep here which is FANTASTIC – it made me feel like I was swimming well before I actually was.

Can you see me here? I’M SWIMMING!!!

    Totally wet, totally swimming.  Woo-hoo!

And even better, there are STICKS in this river – why didn’t anyone tell me this sooner? – and since it’s really hot outside today, I’m LOVIN’ this…

There were lots of people who had the same idea that I did about swimming today, and lots of other doggies.  There was even a human in a kayak who got a little too close for comfort…

This is me splashing him as he went by… he was really moving fast, but I think he got the idea that I wasn’t pleased by all of my fuzzy splashing.

Notice my technique here – paws straight out, nose up, stick in mouth.

    Then… SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE

And of course then I had to pee on the sand castle that two little girls were building while I was swimming.  Just to show ‘em that I’M THE MAN…

Oh yeah.  Wet, muddy, AND sandy beard… whaddaya think ladies?

I’m feeling very rugged individualist here.

    A final parting beard shot…

Ah, yet another thing that I have conquered.  Just like Michael.  I’m feeling good, but I’m also feeling thirsty.

EXACTLY what I was thinking… a quick visit to the Lucky Lab for some brewskis.

    Please… NO AUTOGRAPHS…

So dad said that he had to do some errands today… snore.  It just sounded so b-o-r-i-n-g.  And it’s actually HOT here today, so I was afraid I’d be stuck in a hot car waiting outside some nameless building for him… But then mom said she was going too so IT’S PARTY TIME…

Dad actually only had one errand to do – he just took the test to be a certified food and beverage handler here in Oregon, and he had to go to the office to finalize his test (he passed with flying colors!).  So mom and I waited for him outside (no dogs inside apparently… bastards).

Mama and I did a patrol – checked the perimeter of the building – to make sure it was safe for dad.  And yes, I can report that all was safe.

Then I was sure that he must be missing me (he was inside for awhile), so I placed myself right at the front door so he couldn’t miss me.  I wouldn’t want him to be scared!

Since we were already in the Milwaukee area, dad suggested we go down to the river and see what we can see.  So this was the very first thing I saw, and I APPROVE…

It’s awfully pretty here, and today is just lovely.  The Willamette River isn’t really clean, but there were people swimming in it, riding boats in it, and fishing in it.  I contented myself with running, jumping, and exploring the land and NOT the water.

Isn’t that a cool-looking bridge?  Wait until you see it up close..

    It’s ALL WOOD!!!  Neato!!!

Dad had heard about a place called Elk Rock Island, so we drove around until we found the entrance to that…

Now supposedly, there is a land bridge that connects where we are to Elk Rock Island.

See those tiny people?  Guess what.  The land bridge isn’t there because the water is too high.  They were kind of crazy, walking through waist-high water to get to the trail on that island.  I sure wasn’t going there (and mom agreed)…

Hehehe, I’M NOT GETTING WET dad…

I knew that something smelled awfully good tho, something I haven’t smelled since the last time I was at Echo Park lake back in Los Angeles… I KNOW, IT’S GOOSE POOP!!!

Tiring.  Whatta day.  So much excitement when I expected none.  Luckily Portland is a town full of brewpubs where a dog can rest his weary haunches with a beer and some nachos.  This one is famous – The Lucky Labrador – it has a big back patio where dogs are welcome so LETS GO!!!

See that cool mosaic?  I was certainly impressed with their decorator.

I met lots of doggies while I was there but curiously they were ALL labrador retrievers!  At first I thought that was odd, maybe it was for Labs only, but then I realized that it was for all doggies, there are just a LOT of labs here in Portland!  This girl was a cutie-pie with a great-smelling butt.

OF COURSE we need to have another beer, and bring on the nachos!
